‘Understory’ is a series emerging from the bush, exploring shady tracks and contemplating the shadows. ‘It considers the fragile ambience of our endemic forests, a reverence to the symbiotic balances and sheer bliss of dappled light and cool shade. Equally, the acceptance of solitude and disquietude in the shadows fosters an embrace with darkness and loss. With a restrained palette, merging contemporary and traditional techniques from Eastern and Western painting schools, gestural strokes suggest nostalgic bushwalks and lost forests.
